Philip Lardot, Schiefer Riesling, 2022

£35.00

Mosel Valley, Germany

Landwein der Mosel

100% Riesling // 11.5% abv

Phillip moved to the Mosel to work with Clemens Busch and loved it so much he stayed. Schiefer, or ‘Slate’, is a blend of several parcels of Riesling, from fruit that is farmed by Philip and Rosa’s close friend, Michael, the only grower they purchase fruit from, along with selections from our own vineyards.

The vines are 30-40 years old and all sites are pure grey and blue slate. The 2022 vintage is an expression blended from the villages of Piesport and Sankt Aldegund.

Cold macerated for a few hours before pressing, fermentation in barrel on full lees, 14 months of ageing in tonneau.

Philip will require no introduction to those with their ears to the Riesling-stained ground. The Finish-Dutch-Belgian winemaker found his home in the Mosel after a 2013 harvest at Clemens Busch convinced him to move from Amsterdam to Pünderich.

Philip has been making wine in the Bullay cellars of Stein since 2016 and he has recently moved to start out on his own with his partner Rosa. These are singular wines with a natural touch: all are unfiltered and have undergone malolactic fermentation resulting in wines of great texture and sapidity.
