Thibault Masse took over Domaine de la Renière in 2018 along with his business partner Guillaume. His love for Chenin is infectious and the precision of his wines is testament to his desire to show off the character of Chenin on his diverse Saumur soils.
The domaine has existed since 1631 as a farm, kept within the same family until its sale to Thibault. He has started to assess its highly diverse and complex soils and converted the 16 ha to organic farming from the beginning of his tenure. Alongside blends from across his holdings, he is also taking a more ‘parcellaire’ approach; vinifying separate plots based on soil types and vine age.
His Cabernet Francs are not to be forgotten, approachable and juicy at the entry level, gaining perfume, depth and smokiness in his single plot bottlings.
